Glad we cleared that up

"Marriage is not about love. It's about a love that can bear children." --Republican Rep. Todd Akin of Missouri, during Tuesday's House debate about an amendment to ban same-sex marriage.

Oh, oh, responding to this is like shooting fish in a barrel! Let's see . . . infertile people cannot marry? People committed to not having children cannot marry? A fertility test should be required before a marriage license may be issued?

Maybe I should be quiet lest these things come to pass.

I'll be sure to inform my aunt and uncle, who have been married and devoted to each other for upwards of 40 years, that due to their lack of children their marriage is invalid.

What a tool.

Yeap. I sure would like Representative Aiken to say that to my mother, who remarried after her ovaries had been removed.

How about this crazy idea...

Why does the state recognize marriage at all? Isn't marriage a religious thing? Why not simply recognize individuals or, if need be, couples? Let people get married in churches for the right reason. I guess the government needs to know for tax reasons, another system that needs an overhaul.
