Barack boosts McCaskill and declares "I've had enough"

How good a morning was it for Democrat Claire McCaskill?

Well, Barack was in town. These days, that should say it pretty well.

Barack Obama, the freshman senator from Illinois who is taking a hard, hard look at running for president in 2008, raised $400,000 for McCaskill at a breakfast fund-raiser in downtown Kansas City.

Then he turned around and gave a passionate stemwinder at The Uptown Theater (key refrain: "I've had enough (of the Bush administration). Have you had enough?") that had Democrats on their feet.

And in the process he helped attract 700-800 folks to sign up to volunteer for McCaskill's U.S. Senate campaign just as the race hits the home stretch.

   "He's special," McCaskill said later.

Look for the story, and my column, in Sunday's Star.

$400000 dollars will make you special!

lol, this does not ascare me for Talent as he is preaching to the choir, he is singing to the dems you would not switch anyway. It is a dem rally..good for Obama, the man Claire said she was not endorsing for president.

Cleaver also gave a great speech. I'm generally satisfied with him, but I was proud to have him as my representative as he spoke.

As for the anonymous commentor who is not "ascared" of a dem rally, the point of the rally was to generate enthusiasm among the grassroots for a GOTV effort, not to convince people like you to vote for her. And judging by the enthusiasm generated, you might want to be a little "ascared."

Fully 53 percent of Americans want the Democrats to win control of Congress next month, including 10 percent of Republicans, compared to just 35 percent who want the GOP to retain power. If the election were held today, 51 percent of likely voters would vote for the Democrat in their district versus 39 percent who would vote for the Republican. And while the race is closer among male voters (46 percent for the Democrats vs. 42 percent for the Republicans), the Democrats lead among women voters 56 to 34 percent.

Isnt Cleaver the one that endorsed Sandra Mcfaddin Weaver the one under federal investigation right now . Of course he does give a good speech

It was definately a positive rally with good representation from diverse communities except for the Latino community. It seems a bit like Latinos are persona non grata these days due to the immigration imbroglio and politicians would rather keep them away than use their talent -- pardon the pun I am a democrat -- to win political office.

There where alot excluded it was a insider event . But everyone votes

Sound like he's more Popular than Jeb!

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Protesters greeted Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on his way to a campaign event for a Pennsylvania senator, and he briefly took refuge in a subway station supply closet to avoid the anti-Republican demonstrators.

The president's brother encountered protesters on their way to join a demonstration outside the exclusive Duquesne Club, where Sen. Rick Santorum, a Republican, was holding a fundraiser Friday.

Officers used stun guns to subdue two protesters, saying they disobeyed orders to disperse, said Bob Grove, a Port Authority spokesman.

"It was a very tense situation. They were very close to the governor and shouting on top of him," Grove said.

Bush was not injured.

The protesters, made up of members of the United Steelworkers union and the anti-war group Uprise Counter Recruitment, chanted, "Jeb go home," and said Bush blew them a kiss.

Bush, accompanied by a security guard and an aide, retreated into a nearby subway station and was followed by about 50 picketers, said Bob Grove, a Port Authority spokesman.

"(Bush) was quickly getting out of the way and not wanting to engage us," said Jon Vandenburgh, a protester and a researcher for the United Steelworkers.

As a precaution, Bush was ushered into a station supply closet and stayed there until the crowd left

I wonder when He (Jeb) will come out of the closet.

John, you use rediculous name calling and childish remarks to replace debate.

I doubt Jeb is gay, and since you're a liberal, I thought you'd be okay with it even if he was. What? Are you a biggot John? Been gettin' mail from Freddy Phelps?

Would that be the mail that you keep forwarding???

Yep, that Jeb story sounds about right. The liberals are violent to the point that people are concerned about security while the conservatives simply voice their opinions but respect the other side. Typical, typical, typical.

Now Hastert!?! Seems he lives with his chief of staff, and has for 6 years. Have the gays completely taken over the republican party? Boy have they sold the fundies a bill of goods. Here stupid stupid stupid...

You know why Dem's can't get their message out? They don't have one. No solutions, they just bitch about the other side.

"I've had enough too". Enough of blacks using their race as a crutch for "votes". Jesse Jackson blackmailing white people for money that goes to his Rainbow biggot coalition. Enough of blacks using words that are off limits to every other race or be labeled a raciest. Enough of blacks calling other blacks that disagree with their politics, oreo or Uncle Tom. Blacks that throw the card out when you criticize them because they are "off limits".There are more black raciests out there than there are whites. They don't want equality, that's not where the money is. Now go get me my crack.

Jeb hiding from the bad union people in a broom closet. Oh. My. God. I think I just peed my pants.

"Now go get me my crack."

Sheesh, Owen. Put down the pipe. I think you've had enough already ... unless by calling them "raciest" you are referring to them as the superlative form of "racy."

That was by far the best Cleaver Political speech I have ever seen. The way he had the crowd fired up was beyond anything I have ever seen before. Go Congressman!

Who are these people claiming that this morning's event was for insiders? Were you on the internet when you posted those comments? Yes, you were. I found out about the event on the internet. I got my tickets on the internet. I showed up and they let me in. You're either not trying to be involved, or you are a troll.

Roos, there were two separate events. The one you attended at the Uptown was, indeed, free and tickets were available online. The other event was a fundraiser at the Meuhlbach Hotel and, with tickets ranging from $250 to $1,200, is probably what is being referred to as for "insiders."

fyi:

Sen. Obama gave the same general remarks at the free event as we got at the brunch. We got runny eggs and the privilege of paying.

No complaints. It is really important for the Republic for the Dems to take both houses of Congress -- even real conservatives like George Will say so. The Repubs have just gotten too rotten.

You know you are bad when covering for child predators is one of your lesser sins!

and this out of today's post dispatch with Claire's vague and no answers again...and this can be real trouble for Claire, previous articles were with St. Louis democratic committeemen and women who were jumping ship because of her choice on who to support to replace her...

just food for thought

southerngirl - your main theme on this blog, as far as I've noticed, is to represent how Claire doesn't connect with outstate voters. Are you suggesting that the good folks of rural Missouri care deeply about St. Louis machine politics?

Thanks for the link, it was informative. The loudest complaints the columnist has heard about Claire are from people who are upset they're not getting campaign dollars. Claire says some people have a bad track record of using campaign dollars to actually draw constitutents to the polls. That was clear enough for me.

No, I meant racist. My typing doesn't keep up. Now get over here. I've got your 40 and your welfare check for your 6 kids and 4 daddy's.

True, I've seen so many liberal "functions" where they start to push you at first, then threaten, then throw objects, etc. Face it, they don't have a single original idea in their head, then attack when faced with an opposing opinion. Lets blame the white man for all of their "problems". It's the white mans fault they can't use protection when they are reproducing over and over again, while they have no job. It's the white mans fault they can't get a job, but they look like something out of a Spike Lee gang banger movie when they try every 5 of 6 years. It's the white mans fault their 13 year old kids hang out on corners to get shot at 2AM on a "school" night.

Obama for Presodent? Hell will freeze over. You think the white fringe groups will let him make it to office. Uh, no.
The blacks create the problem, then they blame others FOR their problems. Afro American my arse.Your supposed to be American you idiots, not some tribe from overseas. Gotta go, I'm going to watch the Chiefs with some of my Europen American friends.

Art states: Obama for Presodent? Hell will freeze over. You think the white fringe groups will let him make it to office. Uh, no.

---> I understand where you are coming from with your generally on your post. You are a little wrong on Obama. The deal with Obama is that he is a champion of personal responsibility that is what makes him different than a lot of the other black leaders (Jesse Jackson, Sharpton, etc) from the past. I am concerned that has he tries to get support from the Democrats to make a run for President that he may stray from that stance.

Yes I do talk about outstate Missouri. That is where I was raised, that is where my family is at, and those are the voters I watch. From the beginning this has been called a 30,000 vote race and everyone almost has said Claire had to hang on to what she had in 04 and pick up 2% in outstate votes. She cannot afford to lose bases she had. I was simply pointing out that one of her strong St. Louis bases has been jumping ship on her, not a good sign for her vote totals. I did not connect the last post to rural America, I was simply pointing out that Claire may be losing a rather substantial base in St. Louis that she thought at one time she had and this was not a good sign for her.

I do watch this race on many levels, so now I cannot post on an issue that I consider relevant that is not outstate? I think the post is relevant that Claire is losing old time supporters, period.

I think Art was implying that white fringe groups would kill Obama before letting him become president. He should be ashamed!

"Now get over here. I've got your 40 and your welfare check for your 6 kids and 4 daddy's."

You must be terribly bored to come on here and post such racist claptrap. What's the matter? Hasn't the dry cleaner got your sheets and pointy hoods back to you yet?

I was there and other than being wowed away by Cleaver's speech and by Obama's, the thing that impressed me the most was the diversity of the crowd. I went up to the balcony to take pictures and that was the first thing I noticed. There were white faces and brown faces and young folks and older folks. It made me proud to be a Democrat in Kansas City.

Oh and not a pedophile in the bunch! :-)

Oh thou Art,

How racist, and in denial of yourself being so ignorant you are.

An honorable and good selfless man would contribute to, and serve society and others.

A person such as yourself could become very pleasing to our God, Lord by following his teachings.

It would also be very pleasing to my God whose name is Lord if those in our society who have mastered the personal responsibilty thing you speak about so proudly in your character, if your type would reach out to those who have failed, and are failing in this area (you know, those people you mock so intensly)AND BECOME A MENTOR TO THIS GROUP of people you mock.

Otherwise, all the personal responsibilty skills that your have been taught and have mastered in this world that you are so impressed with in yourself, will not be good enough to reserve you a place in heaven,(that's what this life is all about).

You do believe in Heaven and Hell, don't you?

Because from your own writing, which exposes your heart, you are a true child of the God of this world, and his name is not Lord, do you know what that mean?

Owen, Art,

Don't you realize that racism is spiritual; it is very much a demonic activity that operates through people like yourselves.

Blacks also need to understand this, and realize that racism is never going to cease on this earth until Christ returns. And that they need to align themselves with God, obedience to Him and ALL and realize that racism must be handled through the means of spiritual warfare. No Black person who is aligned with God in obedience can be oppressed by anyone. But lack of this knowledge you will not be a successful people on this earth. You can turn it around by understanding the spiritual workings behind racism.

Wow! If that post at 12:08 was really written by a black person it's unfortunate that some still live under the "slave mentality" that was used to keep slaves in their place.

I suspect, however, that it was written by a white racist intent on using Christianity to further oppress blacks ... just like the Southern white "Christians" were able to justify slavery by quoting from the Bible.

Regardless of who wrote it, it's a sad commentary on human nature.

Kaycee,

You are an admitted atheist. Only those who believe in the God of Moses, Abraham and Issac can comprehend what was written.

D.Walker (posting anonymously), I guess because I don't believe in the false version of God and the perversion of Christianity you preach, it must make me an atheist in your eyes.

So be it if that makes you feel better and help you make it through your sad day.

I'm just happy to be a part of a belief system that upholds the dignity of all people and isn't twisted to match the bigotry of its members.

The Repugs act like they own Morality. Claim They are Gods people. Tell me once when Jesus condoned torture. Judge what they do not what they say. They are compulsive liars and cannot be trusted one bit. What they have done is try their best to destroy our constitution and our labor protections.

Kaycee,

It was due to God's intervening, as to the reason slavery ended. God warned humanity after the Jews enslavement in Egypt, and His bringing them out of slavery, just like He brought Blacks out of slavery:

"Whoever kidnaps someone, either to sell him or keep him as a slave, is to be put to death". (Exodus 21:16)

Even though Lincoln freed slaves on September 22, 1862 by issuing the Emancipation Proclamation. That did nothing to end slavery, it took four years of bloodshed, when on April 9, 1865, slavery was abolished in more than just words.

God always keeps His word. He acomplished the cease of slavery once and for all when through God the Civil War was won, (see God kept His word, much bloodshed,(death), because of the disobedience of men. Same as with the Egyptian Army that he destroyed (death)because they did not want to let the Jews be freed from slavery.

Same with the Confedrate army here in the U.S., operating out of demonic activity, doing the work of their God who was(Satan). We still have that evil spirit in our country. (Racism).

Poor Kaycee, and you believe that Blacks who believe in God have a slave mentality. Kaycee, that a lie from Satan. Blacks have better start celebrating and worshiping God on April 9th in honor and worship to our Lord for what He did for us. Just like God requires of the Jews (Passover) in honor to Him for bring them out of slavery on that day.

Kaycee,

You are correct it is me, D. Walker.

"Poor Kaycee, and you believe that Blacks who believe in God have a slave mentality."

Actually, what I was referring to was your highly offensive post: "Blacks also need to understand this, and realize that racism is never going to cease on this earth until Christ returns. And that they need to align themselves with God, obedience to Him and ALL and realize that racism must be handled through the means of spiritual warfare."

It is the duty of any oppressed people to rise up against their oppressors. Telling them "Just know your place and let God take care of it" is the same sort of argument that was used to keep slaves in submission. That's why slave owners fell back on the Biblical admonition "Slaves, obey your masters" from the new Testament and the stories of the bondage and exile of the early Jews in the Old Testament. Those are the stories that reinforced the idea of slavery and helped to keep blacks in submission ... and telling blacks that racism will be handled by "spirital warfare" and devine intervention is just a slightly more modern version of the stories that keep slaves in bondage.

LOL! Dang it, D.W.! Now you have me posting anonymously!

You know, D.W. ... your approach to ending racism reminds me of the story of the poor man who kept praying to win the lottery. Every night he prayed to God to win the lottery so he could end all his financial difficulties. He promised to donate a tenth of his winning to the church. When that didn't work, he promised God a quarter of his winnings. Still no results. Then he promised God half of his winnings, then everything that was left once he had paid off his debts ... and still nothing.

Eventually the man died and upon entering the Pearly Gates he demanded an audience with God. He was ushered into God's magnificent hall and, instead of being awed, he demanded angrily, "God, I prayed to you every night for years for a winning lottery number. I even offered you all but the portion I needed to pay off my debts. And you ignored me!"

From the far end of the hall came a deep voice: "I appreciate that you had faith in me to provide you with winning numbers. But the fact is that you still have to buy the ticket."

It seems to me, D.W., that in leaving problems like racisim all up to God to take care of, you're putting all the work on God and not allowing Him to work through people.

Wonder why SouthernGirl still resides here in Sodom, when she can draw her SS disability back in rural Missouri? Could it be that she can be gainfully employed here in Sodom, but couldn't find some rural area employer to to allow for her disability? My rural roots song and dance is getting long of tooth. We all stay here in this big bad, sinful city because of jobs, or our business relies on this size market to survive for the needed customer base. Love us or leave us, the Cape waits for you!
And remember, SS disability was a Democratic program, and is protected by the dems! Bet ya a dollar to a donut that Bush would eliminate or reduce this program in a heartbeat, copassionate by butt.

Yes Platt County preschooler I am a liberal. One that not only promotes the 2nd Amendment but all of them. And no I am not a Biggot I just get a kick out of these chest thumping wimps that use fear to lead the flock to slaughter. Students are starting to stand up to these liars.

At Columbia, Students Attack Minuteman Founder

By ELIANA JOHNSON - Staff Reporter of the Sun
October 5, 2006

Students stormed the stage at Columbia University's Roone auditorium yesterday, knocking over chairs and tables and attacking Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the Minutemen, a group that patrols the border between America and Mexico.
http://www.nysun.com/article/41020

Now this looks like the America I know. The Revolution is here!!!

Well, dickey, you constantly amaze me, it may be because I became settled where I am at. It may be because one of my college children likes it, or it may be because I choose to be here. I have never called it Sodom, I have a great life here. I could work in rural Missouri if I want to go home, and will if grandkids beckon me, (hear that children of mine - I am ready)

Is it that hard for you to believe that I enjoy my life, think I have a good one, and am planning on keeping it? I love the bootheel of Missouri and will return home some day. I stay in close touch with my family, travel there frequently and hold on to my roots.

Or maybe I moved here for a man in my life...hmmmmmmmmm

I take social security as a necessity when I became diagnosed with a very serious illness which I still have. I am lucky for medicare and medicare part D, I am lucky i can work part time but it is on a "as I can basis", but does not affect my check. I fall in lower middle class, maybe lower than that, but make it fine. No complaints from me.

Kayceewolf,

I never said that one must just sit back and think God will do all the work for you. One must take action and God will be there with you and assure your victory. God need bodies to operate through.

Kayceewolf,

Think all that bloodshed from the Civil War was done only by God I spoke about?

Didn't those doing the will of God (Yankees) have to first take some action first and forthmost?

Wasn't it God being there with them (Yankees), that assured their victory against the Confederates, and also ending slavery?

And, we can be 100% assured that ending slavery was God's will.

"Whoever kidnaps someone, either to sell him or keep him as a slave, is to be put to death". (Exodus 21:16)

Kayceewolf,

The reason that the Gay Movement will not succeed is because Homosexuality is not God's will for mankind.

Much like bombing Iraq was not the will of God.

400,000 for breakfast, imagine if he had stuck around for lunch.

...maybe the margin wouldn't have been as good with a luncheon...cost per plate is cheaper for breakfast.

...maybe the margin wouldn't have been as good with a luncheon...cost per plate is cheaper for breakfast.

Agreed, now what is the margin when you just invite people over to someone's house to give money?

Personally, I like it when there is an individual hosting the fundraiser...whether it's at the county level or national in scope. Maybe it's the social aspect for me vs. another hotel ballroom and limited interaction with those at your table.
Margin: what's your overhead? No hotel ballroom rental costs, no (or very little) dollar spent on the meal. Heck...you don't even have to do a meal (i.e. Bush coming to town for Talent)!
I guess any venue and any fundraiser is always good...but I prefer the personal touch of the individual home or business.
