Two of us

More than a dozen African-American ministers from Kansas City and St. Louis endorsed Amendment 2 Friday afternoon.

Among them: the Rev. Wallace Hartsfield of the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church.

He says he supports the stem-cell initiative because African-Americans suffer from serious diseases.  "You name the disease and our community has more of it," he said.

Dear Mr. Helling,
Please visit with Revs. Briscoe and White from the Paseo Baptist Church. They are excellent African American ministers and would be able to provide you with the other half of your story. Many African American pastors are oppposed to Amendment 2. Please be fair and objective in your reporting.

What was unfair or unobjective? It's already well-known that there are a number of religious organizations and representatives opposed to the Amdendment.

It's news that there are religious folks that are just as committed in their belief who are in support of the Amendment.

Yes, that's right: it's only news when someone supports this amendment.

Well, now we know where Stowers is spending all that money.

Money talks. And $24 Million of Stowers' money makes a really loud noise. Some, like these ministers, will follow the noise. And the smell of MONEY.

K.C. star has to be the home of the biggest liberals in the U.S. never tells the other side and always endorses Liberals , look at all the people they endorse what a Liberal rag.

Sheesh, dh, maybe if you actually read the Star, instead of running your mouth, you'd learn how to at least form a coherent sentence.

oh you mean the "red star" . Most people
already have their dogs potty trained and don't need it lol .

WOW, 12 Black pastors supporting a Democrat agenda! Like that has never happened before. Big News!

Where are Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. With the money the Stowers folks are giving out, I am surprised the two havent made an appearance. Still ten days to election.

Lets see, are these the same ministers who support abortion on demand. With the rate of pregnancy to unwed mothers being almost 75% in the black community, maybe they should change their teaching that sex outside of marriage does have a consequence.

GOOD FOR THEM. SHOWS YOU CAN BE RATIONAL AND A BELIEVER AT THE SAME TIME. I AM PROUD OF THEM.

WAY TO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS NOT CLONING, BUT VERY PROMISING SCIENCE.

VOTE YES ON AMENDMENT 2!

LOL Jesse Jackson will be here today!

I'm not black a dem or a rep, but I know the ES ballot is all about money. ES science has been going on since the 1950's. I'm sorry that politicians have blew hocus pocus at the disabled trying to say that ES research will provide a cure. Strange I never see those folks giving kudos to the therapeutic value of adult stem cells. I guess its ok for some of you to sacrafice a life to save your own. ES cells are so unpredictable. You could get cancer from them, and if not careful you could literally have a new set of teeth grow some where on your body. Scientists are trying to change their behavior with chemicals, but it appears ES cells know exactly what they want to become. According to American Science magazine scientists have no idea as to what cell will become heart tissue, teeth or whatever. Amazing how a womens body lets her know when she's pregnant with this so called "Little cell". And as mentioned above, its amazing that these so called ES nutral cells already know what they are to become from the get go. So if none of this works and thousands of fertilized eggs get destroyed in research, do you think there will be any apologies?

Let's see what I have elearned from reading this blog:

1) Anyone who is against Amendment 2 is of that opinion because they are of high moral fiber.

2) Anyone who supports Amendment 2 is either ill informed or just wants the money.

3) Any publication that supports Amendment 2 is so "liberal" it should not be read by "right" thinking people.

4) Any publication against Amendment 2 is engaging in true, honest journalism.

5) Any Minister who endorses Amendment 2 is just chasing money and doesn't really believe in God.

6) Any Minister opposed to Amendment 2 is a "true man of GOd".

Does that about cover it?

AS A MAN THAT HAS HAD CANCER FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS, I AM SHOCKED AT THE COMMENTS MADE BY BOTH SIDES. THE PEOPLE WILL SPEAK ON NOVEMBER 7TH REGARDLESS OF THE ELECTION WE DONT NEED TO THIS ISSUE TO DEVIDE THIS COUNTRY AND STATE ANY MORE THAN OUR COUNTRY HAS BEEN DEVIDED DURING THE LAST SIX YEARS. REGARDLESS HOW YOU VOTE,ITS YOUR DUTY AND RESPONDIBILITY TO VOTE. WHILE AMMENDANT 2 IS IMPORTANT, THE NINETY SIX TOOOPS THAT WERE KILLED IRAQ THIS MONTH ARE IMPORTANT ALSO. GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS AND VETERANS. GOD BLESS AMERICA, WE NEED IT.

Good for Rev. Hartsfield. One of the corporal works of mercy is to heal the sick.

The opposition to Stem Cell research is irrational reduction to absurdity, placing the welfare of a bunch of cells too small to be seen over the welfare of living, suffering persons. The fact that such a position is strongly held as a "religious" belief does not make it more rational, any more than the fact that people strongly held the belief that heretics should be burnt made that position acceptable.

Folks are perfectly free to embrace irrational religious beliefs for themselves. Christian Scientists are free to pray for a cure for appendicitis instead of operating. But they are not free to make surgery illegal for the rest of us. And courts order surgery for their children when needed.

Stem cells are no different an issue: By all means, feel free to reject any miracles of medicine that may come from this research for yourselves. Die of diabetes. Shake with Parkinsons. Lose your self in Alzheimers. But do not impose your 12th century thought processes on the rest of us.

And do not presume to call yourself "Christian". It was the Pharasees who condemned Christ for healing the sick on the Sabbath. Form over substance.

Jack, you crack me up. Enjoyed reading your post. To the nice gentleman that posted, appreciate your concern for the troops, but lets focus on the topic at hand here. Everyone's attacking Stower's Institute lately but people Stem Cell research is not the only type of research that goes on at that facility. And if they spend a big portion of their funding on it, it's because they believe in it. This country is years behind countries overseas in this type of research and yet we're supposed to be the land of opportunity. Embryonic stem cells are less differentiated than adult stem cells. We haven't seen the full effect of diseases it might contribute to helping yet because we cannot do the research. It's not like babies are being created and destroyed for the purpose of lining pocketbooks. In fact they're not being created and destroyed at all. SCNT is the best way to go about this research and people are treating it like its the plague. Open your eyes, do some research. Whatever happened to being open minded.
