"...restoration of pride in America, her values and those cherished by the entire free world."

Our country sure could use a Ronald Reagan type president right now to undo the mess Bush his inept "leadership"/governance has created. When you talk about "optimism, faith and hope in the American people" now, I think of John Edwards.

10:49 a.m.,

Oh please, you can't be serious. John Edwards made a living off of personal injury cases. For the leagal challenged -- thgat makes him a tort attorney.

The results? More Americans have optimism, faith and hope...that they will remain uninsured thanks to attorneys like Edwards.

To smear a good thing like Ronald Reagan's b-day with Edwards stuff. You definitely take the cake.

I will say the George Bush 41's incompetence and dishonesty has given me a much better appreciation of Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush. Much more than I ever had before. I wouldn't go so far as to exaggerate his presidency as Timmy did but that seems to be the norm for the GOP. The Party of Nixon keeps trying to dig up Ronnie for Knighthood all the while ignoring the inhabitants in their own gutter.

Edwards was a successful attorney and Reagan starred in "B" Movies. Your're right, based on experience its a poor comparison.

Happy BDay to the Gipper! Would have been happy to have Reagan for 20 years and none of the last 6 years of W.

You know nothing about John Edwards. He is the type of person Ronald Reagan always spoke about: filled with hope, optimism, hard work ethic, love for our great country, and love for people:

1) his father, Wallace, worked in the textile mills for 36 years
2) his mother, Bobbie, worked at the post office
3) John Edwards worked at the mill with his father
4) Edwards attended public school and was the first person in his family to attend college
5) For 20 years, Edwards dedicated his career to representing families and children against the powerful insurance industry and their armies of lawyers. He helped families through the darkest moments of their lives to overcome tremendous challenges. His passionate advocacy for people like the folks who worked in the mill with his father earned him respect and recognition across the country.

Have you read Edward's Univeral Health Care proposal? If Edwards has his way, ALL Americans will have health care:

John Edwards for President
Feb 5, 2007

Chapel Hill, North Carolina - Senator John Edwards today released a bold plan to transform America's health care system and provide universal health care for every man, woman and child in America. Under Edwards’ plan, families without insurance will get coverage at an affordable price, families with insurance will pay less and get more security and choice, it will be cheaper and easier for businesses and employers to insure their workers.

“The American health care system today is broken for far too many of our families,” said Edwards. “To fix this crisis, we don't need an incremental shift, we need a fundamental change. We need universal health care in this country – not only access to insurance as some politicians say -- so every American is insured and we bring down costs for middle and working-class families.”

Edwards believes that we must achieve universal health coverage as quickly as possible. To get there, all parts of our society must share responsibility. His plan is based on the principle of shared responsibility: businesses, families, and governments must each do their part to achieve universal health coverage and a better health care system for all of us.

The Edwards Plan achieves universal coverage by:

Requiring businesses and other employers to either cover their employees or help finance their health insurance.
Making insurance affordable by creating new tax credits, expanding Medicaid and SCHIP, reforming insurance laws, and taking innovative steps to contain health care costs.
Creating regional "Health Markets" to let every American share the bargaining power to purchase an affordable, high-quality health plan, increase choices among insurance plans, and cut costs for businesses offering insurance.
Once these steps have been taken, requiring all American residents to get insurance.

Iran-Contra. And we wonder why Iranians hate us? Hmmm...which administration was that under?

What the heck does John Edwards have to do with Ronald Reagan's birthday? What a terrible comparison.

Go play in an Edwards sand box. Eat your cake there, too.

Typical Democrats. They want to play in everyone elses yard, play with everyone elses toys.

Don't exclude them from anything for they'll sue for the right to be heard anywhere they darn please.

I'll take the hard work and optimism of John Edwards over anything George W. Bush has offered us any day. And, no disrespect to the dead intended, but Reagan actually had little to do with the end of the Cold War; communism was collapsing under its own weight.

Well how about this? If Edwards is sooooooo similar to Ronald Reagan then he must represent those Reagan Democrats of the 1980s who crossed over and voted Republican.

Then that makes him a DINO.

Johnny boy, come home!

Well Jeetzwillager has provided the typical Rovian-inspired, O'Lielly spewed garbage yet again. We are ONE country, ONE nation, UNITED we stand and DIVIDED we fall. Please, stop with your Rupert Murdock/corporate-bought, faux media outlet, kool-aid drinking lies which continue to propigate the false division between AMERICANS. It doesn't matter which party any candidate is from, as long as the candidate is the best candidate for the job. Vote the best candidate, not the party.

See Edwardian. (smile)

I think they should include the gipper in that Dion song Abraham, Martin and John. Call it Abraham, Martin and the Gipper. He freed a lot of people....

freed people from what exactly? I was an adult in the 1980s and he didn't free me from anything...

Good one JAMES!

Darn, I may have to pass the torch to you. Can't believe I missed that musical comparison.

He freed a lot of Soviet block countries, they love him!

Reagan is burning in hell now right next to Nixon. The guy has received one of the biggest historical rewrites of any president. The hostage deal, Grenada, Lebanon, Iran Contra, Mena Arkansas, the Contras, the memo he "forgot", and having Alzheimer's as a sitting president.

Should have been impeached or at least resigned, now people think he's some sort of hero.

Marvin, I thought libs didn't believe in judgement and hell and all that. I thought only right wingers believed that?? Put down the kool aid!

John Boy

This is one Republican who hopes Edwards gets the nomination. Then I will be voting Democrat. But not if Hillary gets it. Edwards is a lot like JFK and Reagan combined.

Oh HE did that? Wow...I lived through the 80s and somehow missed that he was responsible for that. And here I seemed to remember it had to do with a series of internal coups, revolutions and the collapse from within of Communism. Why did he stop with Europe and not make it collapse in China or 90 miles from the coast of FL in Cuba? I guess even the Gipper couldn't win 'em all.

I do remember his "trickle down" economic know, where everything trickles down in the form of national debt to our grandchildren, great-grandchildrem, etc., etc.. That I remember.

Thanks for correcting me JAMES.

John Boy

sorry for the double post

He would have brought down China and Cuba but that would have made the Democrats mad! We should have a day off for the gipper like MLK jr!

The hostage deal REALLY gets under my skin!!! So does Iran-Contra!!! Reagan was a mediocre puppet president, at best. Honestly, since Nixon took office, what does the Republican Party have to hang its hat on? Clinton's "scandal" of lying about sex is NOTHING compared to the laundry list of scandals EVERY Republican president has been involved in. People who actually pay attention to politics and foreign policy know the truth. I don't drink the kool-aid. The same group running the show now was running the show when Reagan was in office. Reagan wasn't in charge then and Bush isn't in charge now.

Oh, crap...he didn't end communism in North Korea either? Why didn't he end it North Korea?

Revisionist history....reminds of my days working for the Ministry of Truth.
