The end of term limits for the Kansas City council?
Uhhhhhh... maybe!
Wednesday the Finance committee reported out an August vote to extend the limit from two four-year terms to three four-year-terms for the mayor and council.... it's Chuck Eddy's plan (he's running for mayor, you know).
Eddy's plan wouldn't affect the current council... only future mayors and members. Kay Barnes doesn't want a third term anyway.
Terry Riley wants to get rid of term limits altogether. He'll drop that idea in the hat soon.
The council will hash it all out over the next couple of weeks then load a bunch o' charter changes on the August ballot.
The Buzz Blog will keep you posted.
It would seem it would be pretty easy for Barnes not to want a third term when she isn't allowed to run again. One wonders if the rules are changed, if her mind might change as well.
It also seems strange that the Finance Committee would handle such an amendment.
